Danny Cohen

<poster>4</poster>

'Sadly Danny Cohen passed away suddenly on Wednesday 11-Jan-2012. His interest in cricket started as a youngster at Poloc CC in Glasgow.

His playing career was mostly in the Aberdeen Grades as a player for Anchorians, Dyce, Stonehaven and Stoneywood-Dyce.

He was a veritable stalwart of the Aberdeenshire Cricket Association (i.e. Aberdeen Grades) and was an ex-President of the Grades including in its 1984 Centenary season. He was also an ex-President of the Northern District Cricket Association and former NDCA rep to Cricket Scotland as well as seeing service as President, Vice-President and Secretary of Stoneywood-Dyce CC.

Danny found a variety of ways to put something back into a sport from which he derived so much enjoyment.

· His former business "Cohen & Co" supported a variety of cricket clubs over the years including Inverurie, Gordonians and Stoneywood-Dyce.

· More recently he has acted as an on-field mentor (alongside Alan Barron, Colin Moir and Ian Leask) to a series of youngsters at SDCC who have started their adult cricket career in the Grades.

· Quote from John Hitchen (former Grades President): "The main things which youngsters could learn from Danny about batting were application and concentration as he displayed both in abundance"!

His son Matthew is a prominent member of the Stoneywood-Dyce XI in the S&PCU Premier Division. The thoughts of all in the cricket family are with Matthew and others in Dannys family circle.

Email tributes, SMSs and posts on Facebook have been flooding in from teammates and opponents alike. RIP pal!

A G BARRON
President, Stoneywood-Dyce Cricket Club'

<poster>4</poster>

'After several meetings, the league structure at the top level has been changed to an East and West Premier and 1st Divisions, each consisting of 8 teams. We will be playing in the Eastern Premier League alongside Carlton, Arbroath, Forfarshire, Aberdeenshire, Grange, Watsonians and Heriots. Only 1 team will be relegated from this league in the 2012 season.

A play-off between the winners of the East and West leagues will decide the overall Cricket Scotland League winners.

The Scottish Cup Structure has also been changed. Eight 4 team mini-leagues have been introduced and will face each other home and away on 6 different matchdays. We have been drawn alongside Western sides West of Scotland and East Kilbride and Eastern Division 1 side RH Corstorphine.'

Weekend Preview

<poster>4</poster>

'This weekend sees the final round of fixtures in the National League Premiership before the split. A win without Dunfermline getting the two available bonus points would see us be placed in the third play-off group and would be safe from relegation this season.

The 2nd XI play their penultimate game of the season at Kinloch on Saturday. Two wins from two games will see us win the Strathmore Premier Division.

QXSD travel to 2nd St Ronald, where a win is needed to keep up their promotion hopes. Three wins from three games will see them take the second promotion spot back up to Grade 1.

SDQX host third placed Grammar, where the winner of this match would come out as favourite to go up to Grade 2.

For each team, our fate lies in our own hands to where we will end up at the end of the season. Safety, championship, and promotion are all to play for with the final games approaching.'
